Welcome to Ms. Kelley's class

I am very excited to get this year underway! I am looking forward to working as a team with all of my students. I can't wait to get to know each one of them.

Please come to me when you need help at any time. My door is always open. There are no stupid questions. I will do whatever is necessary to help each of my students excel in our classroom and throughout their career at St. Nicholas Academy.

About me...

Hello, my name is Betsy Kelley. This is my first year at St. Nicholas Academy. I was recruited by Principal DeLozier from Oldham County High School. I am currently teaching eighth grade English and literature, eighth grade religion and seventh grade English.

This is my fourth year teaching. I started my career at Sacred Heart Academy teaching World History and junior English. I received my dual certification in social studies while working at Doss High School. I taught English, business communication, computer applications, consumer education and current events at Oldham County High School.

After working for two years in the public school system I realized how much I valued a Catholic school education. While working at OCHS, I sponsored a school fundraiser in which my current events class raised money for a family in Bardstown, KY who lost ten family members and everything they owned. It was part of a unit in which we were learning about how students can make a difference in this world.  The class raised $617 dollars and spread the message of making a difference schoolwide. Unlike the Catholic schools,  the importance of teaching philanthropy among the student body is not widely supported in the public school system. I am a big believer that students need to learn the importance of service early on in their academic careers. I plan to make this a priority while I am at St. Nicholas.

Before I pursued my dream of teaching I produced the news for FOX 41 and WAVE 3. I was working during Septemeber 11, 2001. I was unfortunate enough to see and hear things that the public did not. I found it very difficult to hear about tragedy and sorrow every day. it was while working in that industry I realized that pursuing my dream of becoming a teacher was so valuably important.

I absolutely love what I do. Teaching is such a rewarding profession. I find it very challenging to find new and interesting ways to inspire students to greatness. I hope to bring out the best in your child during their career at St. Nicholas.
